If your business has a website then this information may well be of value to you…
First off (and forgive me for teaching my grandmother to suck eggs) but I’ll give you a little tutorial on what cookies actually are.
‘Cookies are small files which are stored on a user’s computer. They are designed to hold a small amount of data specific to a particular client and website, and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer. This allows the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script which is aware of the data in the cookie and so is able to carry information from one visit to the website (or related site) to the next’. The law relating to cookies and their use changed in May of this year and now websites are required to obtain consent from visitors to use cookies to enhance their visit. Many sites have introduced a pop-up box that explains the changes and to obtain the required permission for their use. Users are asked to click to consent to having information recorded and told what the effect will be if they decline. This box only appears on the first visit to the site, once consent is obtained it does not appear again.
It is reassuring to know that it is possible to accept “implied consent” to comply. This means users do not have to make an explicit choice. Instead, their continued use of a site would be taken to mean they are happy for information to be gathered.
As it is now a legal requirement for all websites to obtain consent from its visitors to use cookies, many websites and companies with websites are finding themselves on the wrong side of the law with regard to this change.
Dont worry though, it’s a simple issue to rectify and we have developed a cost effective package to resolve it and implement the neccessary website changes- if you would like to discuss our cookie consent package or find out more information about what the law requires then please do not hesitate to contact us.
